Kirk Punches, Vice President of Business Development, Expands Sorenson Media’s Presence to Los Angeles to Better Serve Its Media and Entertainment Customers and to Meet Burgeoning Demand for Company’s Innovative Video Encoding and Delivery Solutions

2011 NAB Show

LOS ANGELES--()--Sorenson Media today announced that in order to better serve its media and entertainment customers and to meet growing demands, the company has expanded by adding a new Los Angeles office. The new office will be headed by Kirk Punches, vice president of business development, who will cultivate the organization’s presence among its large and growing base of clients in the entertainment industry.

“We have been the encoding product of choice for many in the media and entertainment communities for years,” said Punches. “With the recent launch of our new and innovative cloud-based and server-side solutions, we have seen accelerating and expanded demand for our unique expertise.”

Sorenson Media CEO Peter Csathy, himself a media and entertainment veteran, added, “Our decision to open an office in Los Angeles – the hub of entertainment in the United States – was an easy one to make; and Kirk is the right guy to run our new LA-based operations. Online video is quickly becoming pervasive across nearly every industry, and as interest and demand continues to grow, Sorenson Media will also continue to develop solutions that simplify the complexity of video encoding, production workflows and delivery.”

Major media companies have long relied on the Sorenson Squeeze desktop application as the gold standard video encoding software. Additionally, last week Sorenson Media announced a significant new partnership with Technicolor, the industry-leading provider of high-end on-set dailies, post-production, visual effects, and animation services, as the latest to employ the company’s enterprise-focused cloud-based video encoding solutions. Technicolor worked closely with Sorenson Media to develop ShareVUE, Technicolor’s innovative new digital dailies service, which harnesses the power and quality of the Sorenson Squeeze Solution Pack for its motion picture and television studio clients. Sorenson Media will establish and service other major media and entertainment relationships through its Los Angeles office.

“We have more than a decade of experience delivering video at the highest quality possible, and with our recent innovations in cloud-computing technology, we are creating interest and opening doors to a broad range of companies,” Punches said. “I look forward to heading up our new office and fostering long-lasting relationships with these influential organizations.”

As vice president of business development, Punches’ focus is identifying strategic opportunities and partnerships and then developing the tactics, teams and overall resources to deliver enterprise solutions. Punches was instrumental in forging client relationships with Technicolor, among others, as well as partnerships with Aspera, Amazon Web Services and RightScale to build the company’s cloud services, such as Sorenson Squeeze Solution Pack. Prior to his current role as vice president, Punches served as director of sales where he was part of the team responsible for the successful launch of Sorenson Media’s award-winning Squeeze desktop and Sorenson 360 solutions. He has over 14 years sales experience, creating partnerships and helping companies bring new products and services to market.

The company is currently headquartered in San Diego and also has offices in Salt Lake City.
