Swap.com Launches Mobile App for iPhone

The First Mobile Swap Market Now Available for Free in the iTunes App Store

BOSTON--()--Swap.com, leading the swap movement both online and in communities across the world, has announced the launch of the first mobile swapping application for the iPhone. The FREE Swap.com Mobile app will enable users to scan bar codes on books, video games, movies, or CDs, and get instant access to Swap.com’s inventory of over 13 million items to swap their stuff for new items that they want.

Swap.com partnered with leading mobile app developers Raizlabs and Mirasense to create an innovative application that brings greater convenience to the budget-savvy practice of swapping instead of shopping, which can now be done right from your phone. As a core feature, the app integrates Mirasense’s lightning-fast barcode scanning technology Scandit to enable fast and simple swapping. In addition, Swap.com’s mobile integration with Facebook further enhances the social nature of swapping by easily facilitating sharing.

“Swapping is an age-old activity that has been around for thousands of years, and we’re really leading the swap movement into the future with this mobile technology,” said Jeff Bennett, CEO of Swap.com. “We’ve leveraged our online marketplace with over a million swappers and smart technology like Mirasense’s leading barcode scanner, Scandit, to enable frictionless entry of all your stuff, to create a forward-thinking app that’s easy to use – and really fun.”

Anyone can download the free application to scan barcodes on books, DVDs, and other media items that are collecting dust at home and instantly see what new items they can get in exchange. Users can also scan barcodes at retail stores to see if items they want are available in Swap.com’s inventory of millions of items - instead of paying full retail price. In addition, those who have a Swap.com account can easily add items to their “have” and “want” lists using the app’s barcode scanner, and even email a shipping label to print at home. Swappers pay only the cost of shipping, plus a small transaction fee depending upon the items being swapped.
