MFG.com Offers Companies Affected by the Recent Disaster in Japan a 60 Day Free Sourcing Membership

MFG.com Shows Support for the Relief Efforts in Japan and their Potentially Devastating Effects on the Global Supply Chain by Offering Companies Affected by this Disaster a 60 Day Free Sourcing Membership

ATLANTA--()--MFG.com, the largest global sourcing marketplace for the manufacturing industry, today announced that they will be offering companies affected by the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan, a 60 day free sourcing membership.

In an effort to provide some relief to the thousands of companies affected by this disaster and the potentially devastating implications it has on their supply chain, MFG.com is waiving all fees on the sourcing side of the application for the next 60 days. This initiative will allow global manufacturers who are in need of components now in order to maintain their own production capabilities to mitigate the disruption to their supply chain by finding alternate sources of supply with capacity, both locally and globally.

“As we continue to hear from our customers about how this catastrophe will impact their supply chain, we wanted to do what we could here at MFG.com and open up our marketplace to all companies affected by this disaster,” says Mitch Free, Founder and CEO of MFG.com, “We are deeply saddened by the human tragedy of this event and this is the least we can do to help in a time of crisis and anxiety for many companies.”

Reports continue to come out about the devastating effects this disaster will bring to the Global Supply Chain. In a recent article, Reuters notes that at least one global automaker’s Supply Chain, in this case Toyota Motor Corporation, has been so disrupted that they have had to delay the launch of two new models and are forcing other industries to shutter their plants and rethink their logistical infrastructure. This story is not unique as GM shuts down their Shreveport Assembly plant in Louisiana due to a shortage of Japanese parts thus causing the loss of US jobs.

The most complicated part of a disruption like this is in finding a supplier that not only meets the company's very high standards but also has current capacity. These high profile companies will not risk quality during a potentially long term part shortage. What MFG.com will do for them is to help them identify suppliers who meet their strict guidelines and have the capability and the immediate capacity. Buying organizations will also be able to see references and ratings on these potential suppliers so they can greatly shorten the supplier on-boarding process and keep their plants operating.

“Many companies have been running on a just-in-time or lean basis and we are seeing that quite a few of them only have 6 days of supply in stock at any given time,” says Mr. Free, “We have suppliers with the capacity and expertise to help them through this crisis so they can keep their supply chain fully optimized.”
