Research and Markets: Pakistan Shipping Report Q1 2011

DUBLIN--()--Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/872679/pakistan_shipping) has announced the addition of the "Pakistan Shipping Report Q1 2011" report to their offering.

The Pakistan Freight Transport Report provides industry professionals and strategists, corporate analysts, freight transportation associations, government departments and regulatory bodies with independent forecasts and competitive intelligence on Pakistan's freight transportation industry.

Throughput at one of Pakistan's largest ports, Port Qasim is on course to recover fully from the downturn. Container throughput at the port is leading the way with pre-downturn volumes reached in 2009/10 (FY10) when the port's box throughput grew by 11% to reach 756,000TEU, beating its 2007/08 (FY08) record throughput of 754,000TEU. This was managed despite throughput at the facility dropping by 9.7% in 2008-09 (FY09).

Total tonnage is on course to follow suit. BMI predicts that in 2010/11 (FY11) the port will grow by 16.44% y-o-y to reach 29.8mn tonnes. They note that the port was close to reaching its FY08 volume of 25.7mn tonnes in FY10, when the port handled 25.6mn tonnes, but just fell short as it was unable to fully recover from the downturn in throughput of 2.8%, which the port recorded in FY09.

BMI predicts that with a full recovery in sight the medium-term outlook is positive with further growth on the horizon.
