Local Ashburn Moms Create Task Force to Raise Money for Assault Victim Ryan Diviney

April 9 fundraising effort receives support and motivation from Enough Already’s Peter Walsh

ASHBURN, Va.--()--Declutter for the Divineys, a mega yard sale effort organized by local Ashburn mothers to help assault victim Ryan Diviney’s family with his health care costs, will take place April 9 with the support and appearance of Peter Walsh, star of “Enough Already!”

The event will include live music, food and other family entertainment from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ashburn Village Lakes Community Center, 44078 Cheltenham Circle in Ashburn.

Declutter for the Divineys was conceived by Ashburn resident Jane Hofmann who learned via Ryan’s family’s blog, “Rally for Ryan,” that he had been accepted into the International Brain Research Foundation treatment program. Ryan was left in a coma following a senseless beating on November 9, 2009 while a college student.

“I knew immediately that this program could make a marked difference in Ryan’s care,” Jane said. “But it would also place a great financial burden on the Diviney family. I wanted to do more than just offer words of support to the family.”

Jane found inspiration in acclaimed organizational expert Peter Walsh’s show “Enough Already!” She sent Peter an email explaining that it was because of “Enough Already!” featured on the Oprah Winfrey Network that she came up with an idea to encourage people to declutter their homes, find items in good condition and encourage them to donate those items to a mega yard sale effort called Declutter for the Divineys.

What Jane didn’t realize was that Peter Walsh would call her. Moved by Ryan’s story, Peter agreed to come to the event to inspire people to help Ryan. Jane rallied her good friend Christine LeTourneau and together they kicked off “Declutter for the Divineys.”

Teams of local women -- some of them mothers, all of them moved by the Diviney’s story -- have been assembled throughout Ashburn to assist with this effort.

Donations for items in good-to-excellent condition can be dropped off at the Long & Foster Ashburn office, 43490 Yukon Drive, Suite 105, any day between 9am and 5pm.
