One of the finest and most influential singing actors in the history of opera, Plácido Domingo performs in Finland August 24th 2011. Rare concert both in Scandinavia and whole Northern Europe is held by recently 70 years of age reached artist in Hartwall Areena, Helsinki.

HELSINKI, Finland--()--Plácido Domingo – one of the greatest opera singers in history and one of the most celebrated tenors of the the 20th and 21st centuries – reached recently 70 years of age. More to celebrate during the year gives the fact that 50 years ago, Domingo’s first performance as a leading tenor (Alfredo in La Traviata) took place in the city of Monterrey. Even now, at the age of 70, he has not lost either his vocal freshness and brilliance or his dramatic conviction. On the contrary, he’s performing just few times through this year, in United States, Japan and Central Europe. The concert of “the King of Opera” in Finland is the only one in whole Northern Europe.

Plácido Domingo is pleased to come in Finland : “Every musician knows that Finland is one of the best countries in the world for music education, which means that when we perform there we know that our audience is probably very sophisticated and expects the best. I’ve had the opportunity to perform in Helsinki three times; the last was in the darkest days of winter, so I am especially looking forward to being there this time during the bright summer days and maybe seeing a little more of Finland’s wonderful countryside.”

Plácido Domingo is a multifaceted artist, recognized not only as one of the most influential singing actors in the history of opera but also as a respected conductor, and, as an actor. He has performed in Finland 1998, 2000 and 2003. This concert is a rare opportunity to experience world-renowned tenor’s voice, which is capable of tremendous power and velvety gentleness. Even at his age, Domingo’s gifts and energy remain undiminished. The concert consists of selection of arias and duets from opera, operetta, musical, zarzuela and popular songs. Plácido Domingo will perform together with soprano Virginia Tola, one of the winners of his Operalia competition, accompanied by the Lohja City Orchestra and the Polytech Choir, conducted by maestro Eugene Kohn.
