Recycling Gets a Fresh Face on Earth911.com

Website redesign will increase social sharing of recycling information and highlight CSR initiatives

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.--()--Earth911.com, host of the nation’s largest and most accurate recycling directory, launched a redesign of a key section of its website: The Recyclo-pedia. The section is a virtual stockpile of information, featuring facts and tips about recycling more than 90 common consumer products such as plastic bottles, rechargeable batteries and glass.

The latest news, searches for recycling locations and programs, polls and social media integration are all featured in the redesign. Additionally, each of the 90 products offers sponsorship opportunities for companies and organizations actively supporting corporate social responsibility through recycling - and looking to showcase it.

“The graphic improvements and fresh design that Earth911 has put into its revamped sections really makes our sponsored page material ‘pop,’” said Tom Lauria, vice president of communications for the International Bottled Water Association (IBWA), which sponsors Earth911’s plastic bottle section. “From new videos to an online version of our magazine, we are enjoying easier content access and improved visitor traffic.”

For Earth911, integrating social media sharing was key in the redesign. “By marrying the concepts of evergreen resource information with timely news, we garner the best of both worlds. People are more excited to share something that they learned through Twitter or Facebook, and our redesign makes that easier,” says Earth911 Resource Editor Megan Dobransky.

“The bottom line is that we not only hope people will feel more empowered to make a difference through recycling in their communities, but also inspire their friends and family,” she added.

Because recycling varies from city to city and state to state, having this staple information is key to continuing to promote consumer awareness about the benefits of recycling, including reducing energy use, reclaiming valuable materials and reducing the carbon footprint of various products.
