MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Legion de Lafayette, which supports the National Guard Association of the United States (NGAUS), will recognize Capella University (www.capella.edu), an accredited online university* that has built its reputation by providing high quality online degree programs for working adults, as the first educational institution to become a member at a ceremony in Washington D.C. on Saturday, March 12, at the National Guard Memorial Building. Capella has also been recognized as a Yellow Ribbon institution for its support of the military and has been named a Top Military-Friendly Colleges and Universities Honoree by Military Advanced Education magazine for the fourth consecutive year. Approximately 13 percent of Capella’s students are affiliated with the military. In total, more than 39,000 students were pursuing an online degree at Capella as of Dec. 31, 2010, with 31 percent enrolled in Capella’s doctoral degree programs, and 47 percent enrolled in Capella’s master’s degree programs.
“We are humbled to receive such a generous donation that will go a long way in our efforts to tell the National Guard story to the American public,” said Maj. Gen. Frank Vavala, the NGAUS and NGEF chairman of the board.
The Legion de Lafayette designates major contributors to the Historical Society of the Militia and National Guard. The Legion de Lafayette is named to commemorate the long-standing historic relationship between the distinguished French soldier, the Marquis de Lafayette, and the American Minuteman with whom he was associated during the Revolutionary War.
“Capella has long been committed to being a leader in providing a military friendly educational experience. Our membership with the Legion de Lafayette demonstrates that Capella cares about our National Guard members, and we are supportive of helping share the National Guard Story,” said Randy Plunkett, Capella’s national manager, government education.
