MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--LensVector®, Inc., the leader in solid-state optical components for camera phones, tablets, televisions and other consumer electronics, today announced its expansion to the greater China region to support device manufacturers in Taiwan, Hong Kong and China.
As part of the expansion, LensVector has opened sales offices in Taiwan and Shanghai to work closely with local design houses, OEMs, integrators and component vendors and deliver simple, rugged and cost-effective autofocus camera modules for the rapidly growing entry-level smartphone market.
LensVector has also signed a distribution agreement with EDOM Technology, a professional integrated circuit distributor based in Taiwan, which will distribute LensVector components throughout the greater China region and provide inventory, sales and technical support services.
“LensVector is receiving tremendous response for our breakthrough optical technology from device manufacturers in the greater China region,” said LensVector CEO Derek Proudian. “We’re increasing our presence in the region and entering into the distribution agreement with EDOM Technology to better serve these key customers.”
“EDOM is recognized for improving demand creation for our clients, and we are proud of our design-win capabilities,” said Wayne Tseng, EDOM Chairman and CEO. “We are pleased to work with LensVector to bring the company’s autofocus and other innovative optical solutions to market.”
Strong Demand for LensVector Technology in Greater China Region
With the smartphone market growing at a rate of nearly 40 percent annually and a substantial amount of those units being entry-level models manufactured in China, LensVector is experiencing tremendous demand for its products from Chinese OEMs and ODMs seeking cost-effective autofocus camera modules as small as 6.5x6.5mm (millimeter) incorporating 3MP (megapixel) or 5MP sensors. Autofocus enables the sharp, high-resolution images required for popular camera-enabled smartphone applications such as barcode reading and optical character recognition.
Backed by more than $50 million in investments from leading investors and imaging companies, LensVector is well positioned to meet this demand with its breakthrough optical technology that can shape, steer and focus light without mechanical movement. LensVector technology replaces the complex, bulky and often fragile mechanical autofocus mechanisms currently found in camera phones with a simple and easy-to-integrate solid-state component.
Shipping today to customers worldwide, LensVector products are in mass production on 8-inch wafers out of the company’s 40,000-square foot manufacturing facilities in Silicon Valley. Capacity is approaching 60 million units a year, with plans for further expansion in 2012.
