Solazyme General Manager of Fuels and Chemicals, Cameron Byers, Elected to Steering Board of Roundtable on Sustainable Biofuels

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.--()--Solazyme, Inc., a leading renewable oils and bioproducts company, announced today that Cameron Byers, senior vice president and general manager of fuels and chemicals, has been elected to the Steering Board of the Roundtable on Sustainable Biofuels (RSB). The RSB Steering Board is the highest decision-making body of the organization, responsible for the development of the RSB standard.

The Roundtable on Sustainable Biofuels is an international initiative coordinated by the Energy Center at EPFL in Lausanne, Switzerland, that brings together farmers, companies, non-governmental organizations, experts, governments, and inter-governmental agencies concerned with ensuring the sustainability of biofuels production and processing. The RSB governance is divided into seven global Chambers, each representing the different actors along the supply chain as well as civil society and government groups. Byers will co-chair Chamber 1, which represents farmers and growers of biofuel feedstocks.

Barbara Bramble, chair of the Board and Senior Program Advisor for the International Climate and Energy Program at the National Wildlife Federation, welcomed Cameron’s addition.

“We are thrilled to have someone with Cameron’s vast experience in the energy industry join the RSB Steering Board.

“Cameron was elected by unanimous vote and his expertise in understanding the value chain of both the fuels and chemicals industry, coupled with Solazyme’s commitment to the RSB standard, will make him an invaluable addition.”

Cameron was inaugurated on February 10, 2011 and his governing duties started immediately.

“RSB is at the forefront of establishing a global standard for a variety of renewable fuels, an initiative that Solazyme is strongly aligned with seeing developed,” said Byers.

“As one of the world’s leading advanced biofuel providers, Solazyme brings an enormous amount of knowledge and expertise to assist in achieving these globally-recognized standards for a variety of fuels.

“We look forward to being a part of RSB and working to support the most sustainable practices for renewable fuels as the world transitions to next generation biofuel technologies.”
