Capella University, an Accredited Online University, Donates $10,000 to America’s Neediest Schoolchildren

The online degree provider is making the donation in recognition of its recent accreditation by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE)

MINNEAPOLIS--()--Capella University, an accredited online university* that has built its reputation by providing high quality online degree programs for working adults, is donating $10,000 to America’s neediest schoolchildren through Donors Choose (http://www.donorschoose.org), an online charity that connects resources to classrooms in need. The donation is in recognition of Capella’s recent accreditation by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), which has accredited the Professional Education Unit at Capella. NCATE is officially recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as an accrediting body for institutions that prepare teachers and other professional personnel for work in preschool, elementary, and secondary schools. The Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) also recognizes NCATE. Through its voluntary, peer review process, NCATE helps to ensure that accredited institutions produce competent, caring, and qualified teachers and other professional school personnel who can help all students learn. An accredited institution refers to an entity accredited by NCATE, whether it is a school, college, department of education in a university, or a non-university provider.

Capella will be providing each of the site supervisors and learners who participated in the NCATE accreditation process with a $100 gift card that can be directed to their favorite school project through Donors Choose.

“After receiving NCATE accreditation, we at Capella decided the best way to celebrate was to provide funds directly to the teachers across the country with the greatest need for additional supplies to achieve their student outcomes,” said Barbara Butts Williams, dean of Capella’s School of Education. “With that objective in mind, we have partnered with Donors Choose because they excel at connecting teachers in need with donors who want to make a difference.”
