MINNEAPOLIS--()--Linda Kimberling, PhD, a graduate of Capella University, an accredited online university* that has built its reputation by providing high quality online degree programs for working adults, has been appointed assistant commissioner for management and chief financial officer for the Financial Management Service (FMS), a bureau of the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Prior to her appointment, Dr. Kimberling served as the director of the Office of Regional Services for the U.S. Geological Survey, Central Region, in Denver.

In her new role, Kimberling is responsible for providing direction and leadership for the FMS’ administrative and financial programs. With primary responsibility for the federal government’s payments and collections, FMS annually disburses more than 1 billion payments to more than 100 million people totaling nearly $2.3 trillion. FMS also collects nearly $2.94 trillion in federal revenues while overseeing a daily cash flow of more than $92 billion. Kimberling will be responsible for helping to ensure that policies developed and implemented for resource management conform with federal and departmental regulatory requirements. She will also provide legislative coordination, support and advice to FMS executive management.

“As a long-time public-servant, I am grateful and truly honored for having been selected to this position. The pursuit of my education, though tiring and a personal sacrifice at times, opened doors and opportunities that prepared me to serve the American citizens in ways unimagined,” Kimberling said. “I would recommend that anyone considering advancing their education seriously consider Capella University. Their scholar-practitioner model is in full alignment with the needs of today’s executive managers and was a critical stepping stone to this achievement.”

Kimberling earned a PhD in Organization and Management from Capella University in 2008.
