Berkeley Research Group Expands Antitrust Practice With New Appointments

EMERYVILLE, Calif.--()--Berkeley Research Group, LLC (BRG), a preeminent expert services and data analytics firm, today announced the expansion of their antitrust practice with new appointments. These appointments include David Scheffman, Henry Kahwaty, and J. Douglas Zona, bringing the firm’s total headcount to more than 200 employees working across 11 offices in the United States and Europe.

David Scheffman joins BRG as a Director in the firm’s Washington, DC office. Dr. Scheffman is a noted scholar. He has many years of experience as a consultant and expert witness on matters involving antitrust, mergers and joint ventures, class certification, RP, complex business litigation, damages, and intellectual property. Dr. Scheffman has over 12 years of experience in a number of senior positions at the Federal Trade Commission, including over 4 years as the Director of the Bureau of Economics. For over 20 years Dr. Scheffman was a professor at the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University, where he was a chaired professor and won various teaching awards.

Also joining BRG is Henry Kahwaty, a Director in BRG’s Washington, DC office. Dr. Kahwaty’s areas of expertise include microeconomics, industrial organization, antitrust economics, and econometrics. Dr. Kahwaty has completed numerous antitrust reviews of mergers and horizontal and vertical contractual arrangements. He has also completed studies of monopolization and abuse of dominance in the context of government investigations and private litigation. He has worked on antitrust, intellectual property, and microeconomic policy matters as a consultant for over 15 years and spent 4 years as an Economist with the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice.

J. Douglas Zona, joins BRG as a Director in Emeryville, CA. Dr. Zona is an economist with expertise in a broad array of antitrust issues, including the competitive effects of mergers and acquisitions, bid-rigging, and price fixing, as well as regulation and regulatory reform. He has extensive experience applying statistical and econometric methods to issues in the context of litigation and strategic advisory services.
