Winzler & Kelly Breaks Ground On Innovative Efficient Office Space

EUREKA, Calif.--()--After nearly six decades at 633 Third Street, Winzler & Kelly (www.w-and-k.com) will soon break ground on an innovatively designed new office space in downtown Eureka. Located at 718 Third Street, the new office space will occupy an existing vacant retail building. The renovation is designed to meet the requirements for certification under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) program (www.usgbc.org) and will be the first privately-owned LEED® building in the City. Sustainable design features include:

  • Highly efficient space and water heating systems;
  • “Intelligent” lighting that capitalized on both natural light and occupancy sensors;
  • Finish materials, including paint and carpet with low volatile emissions; and
  • An electric vehicle charging station.

Reuse of an existing building, rather than constructing new, also enhances the project’s eligibility for LEED® certification. When the project is complete, Winzler & Kelly will employ an electric vehicle for its in-town use.

The project benefits from strong support from Umpqua Bank, which provided financing and Pacific Builders (www.pacificbuilders-arcata.com), the project contractor.
