VANCOUVER, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--IE Market Research Corp. (IEMR), the Canadian-based provider of market intelligence services, announced today the release of its 1Q.2011 Russia Mobile Operator Forecast, 2010 - 2015.
“Russia is a country with considerable differences in urban and rural areas, and Moscow continues to be the largest regional telecoms market. The “Big 3” operators – MTS, VimpelCom and MegaFon - dominate the Russian market with MTS finishing 2010 ahead of its competitors with 71.4 million wireless subscribers,” said Nizar Assanie, Vice President (Research) at IEMR. “The number of mobile subscriber connections in Russia has reached 222 million in the end of 2010, and prepaid subscriber connections represent over 80% of these. Given this, we expect that the total number of mobile subscriber connections will rise to 234 million by the end of 2012.”
IEMR’s Russia Mobile Operator Forecast covers financial and operational metrics on wireless operators in Russia, including Mobile TeleSystems (MTS), Vimpel-Communications (VimpelCom), MegaFon, Tele2 Russia, Uralsvyazinform, Sibirtelecom, Nizhegorodskaya Cellular Communications, and Smarts. Our Mobile Operator Forecasts are updated quarterly and are available for one-time delivery or through regular updates.
Notable highlights of the 1Q.2011 Russia Mobile Operator Forecast include:
- Considering the latest quarter numbers, we expect that subscriber market shares of MTS, VimpelCom, and MegaFon will be declining slightly over the next eight quarters to reach 31.1%, 23.0% and 25.6% respectively by the end of 2012. On the other hand, we forecast that Tele2 Russia’s market share will increase from 8.4% in the end of 2010 to 9.7% in the end of 2012. Tele2 is gaining more customers in this increasingly competitive market primarily because of ARPU levels that are 19%-52% lower than the Big 3 operators in Russia.
- Tele2 Russia continues to pursue a strategy where the launches in new regions are supported by growth in financial performance in the mature regions. As a result, in terms of profitability, Tele2 lags other operators. We forecast that EBITDA margin of Tele2 will be approximately 33% in 2012 compared to 45% - 50% at MTS, VimpelCom, and MegaFon.
