TAINAN, Taiwan--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Announced by the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities published in January, 2011, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan, ranks the 80th in the world and the 4th in Asia, moving 333 places up since July, 2010.
Since 2008, NCKU has optimized its website by editing its content in both English and Chinese so that it may better relate to specific keywords and be more accessible to international users. It also set up the institutional repository to reflect the activities and accomplishments of the university.
To reach international readership, NCKU is active in sending English news releases to foreign media. It is reported that due to an English news release issued by NCKU, Thomson Reuters, one of the world’s largest international multimedia news agencies, especially sent two reporters to interview a professor at the university. NCKU will continue to improve its web presence.
The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities is a ranking system for the world's universities based on a composite indicator that takes into account both the volume of the web contents and the visibility and impact of these web publications. The ranking is published by Cybermetrics Lab, a research group belonging to the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) located in Spain, and is updated every January and July.
