KYOTO, Japan--()--OMRON Corporation (TOKYO:6645)(ADR:OMRNY) today announced plans to release two new safety light curtains, the F3SJ-E and F3SJ-B, on February 28, 2011.

Omron has been working to meet the growing demand seen in recent years for safety systems that not only ensure machine operators' safety, but also improve productive efficiency and product quality.

Until now, safety light curtains have been equipped with comprehensive arrays of complicated functions that are surplus to requirements in many applications, often making them prohibitively expensive. Omron's new safety light curtain F3SJ Series has a product lineup which allows customers to choose products that better match their actual requirements.

The F3SJ-E and F3SJ-B, the latest additions to Omron's best selling F3SJ Series, are simple to use and are suitable for use in all kinds of production sites and applications.

The F3SJ-E ("Easy" type) simply provides the essential safety light curtain function of ensuring that machinery stops when human presence is detected while also enabling substantial reductions in the manhours required for installation, maintenance, and calibration. The F3SJ-B ("Basic" type) features EDM, interlock, and muting functions, plus serial connection abilities enabling it to respond to more demanding applications.

Features

1. Fixed response time helps reduce installation manhours

F3SJ Series safety light curtains have a maximum 15ms response time regardless of the length of the safety light curtain. This obviates the need to readjust the safety distance when the length of the safety light curtain is altered or when a serial connection is needed, greatly reducing maintenance manhours since no additional position settings, schematic drawing preparations, or safety distance calculations are needed. Having one constant, consistent response time also helps improves safety.

2. Installation work reduced by half

The new mounting brackets make mechanical installation of the aluminum housing simple and allow easy alignment. Together with built-in LED indicators, optional laser pointers, and a reduced number of wires in the "Easy" type, the time required for installation and setup has been reduced by half.

3. Intuitive error indicators reduce the length of unintended operation stoppages

Simple and intuitive error indication with LED indicators reduces time required for recovery work.

4. Higher noise tolerance reduces the frequency of unintended operation stoppages

Conventional safety light curtains stop machine operation when excessively loud noises are emitted from machinery. This needlessly puts the machinery out of operation, halting production, and costing time and money. The noise tolerance of the new F3SJ Series products has been improved to minimize such unnecessary operation stoppages

5. Functions to respond to more advanced applications (F3SJ-B "Basic" type only)

The F3SJ-B ("Basic" type) model supports more advanced applications like serial connections of up to three sets for guarding a machine from multiple sides or U- or L-shaped setups. Muting functions are included as well and the muting system status is clearly indicated with a built-in LED indicator, reducing maintenance manhours.
