MEQUON, Wis.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Rick Davis has done it again. The pioneering former CTO and executive vice president of engine development and advanced engineering of Mercury Marine is introducing another game-changing advance in outboard motor design, this time under the flag of his own company, Seven Marine. At the 2011 NMMA Miami International Boat Show Feb. 17-21, together with Intrepid Powerboats, Seven Marine will unveil its introductory outboard model, the 557-horsepower, General Motors LSA-powered, supercharged 557 on the transom of Intrepid’s 370 Cuddy.
The 557 is the world’s most powerful outboard motor to date, outmuscling the nearest competitor by more than 200 HP – in addition to posting a list of “firsts” in advanced technology:
• 557HP 6.2L supercharged all-aluminum fuel injected GM small-block V8
• Nearly 60% more power than the next most powerful outboard on the market
• Ultra smooth shifting and trolling speed control via disk clutch transmission
• World’s first production outboard joystick control
• Twin pinion gearcase with thru-hub exhaust
Seven Marine’s OEM status with GM brings automotive reliability to the outboard market in a lightweight aluminum, fuel-injected, supercharged V-8 package.
With the ability to deliver more power with fewer motors, Seven Marine sets significant new standards for weight savings and drag reduction, both of which translate into markedly improved performance and fuel-efficiency. The result is an outboard motor with class-creating horsepower, efficiency and power-to-weight ratio.
The company has also partnered with ZF Marine to deliver the first outboard joystick control application with ZF’s Joystick Maneuvering System (JMS). Another important feature is ZF’s computer-controlled disc clutch transmission, which allows ultra smooth shifting and fine-tuned throttle control for extremely precise trolling speed adjustments.
Other innovations include a closed-loop cooling system, dual-wall stainless steel exhaust manifolds, adjustable dual water pick-ups, and an octane scaler that features ECU mapping for various grades of fuel.
Partnering with Intrepid Powerboats for Miami Boat Show Debut
“Our customers are very excited that someone has met a need that had not been met by any other engine manufacturer…the need for larger outboard power. As our boats get larger and more complex, so goes the need to match it with the correct power plant,” explained Intrepid President Ken Clinton.
Known for a commitment to uncompromising quality and customer satisfaction, Intrepid produces four lines of powerboats: Center Console, Walkaround, Cuddy and Sport Yachts. Intrepid currently produces 14 different outboard models. Founded in 1983, Intrepid’s manufacturing plant is located in Largo, Fla. and sales offices are in Dania, Fla. or more information about Intrepid powerboats visit: www.intrepidboats.com or call 727-548-1260.
