EDINBURGH, Scotland--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Movie stars from across the world will flock to Hollywood’s Kodak Theatre on Sunday 27 February for the 83rd Academy Awards, to be presented by new Batwoman Anne Hathaway and 127 Hours star James Franco.
This year’s Oscars are set to be watched by a global audience of over 40 million, and while many American and British movies are tipped for awards, the ceremony is a truly global event that will honour films from around the world.
The King’s Speech, London
The King’s Speech is tipped to
pick up more accolades at the Oscars after its resounding success at
last week’s BAFTA awards. Visitors to London should head first to Harley
Street, where Colin Firth’s King George VI undertook much of his speech
correction surgery, before visiting Buckingham Palace which saw the
triumphant new King wave to his people from the balcony.
Black Swan, New York
Darren Aronofsky’s brooding epic is set
in a dark, New York backdrop. Natalie Portman’s complex character can be
spotted fleetingly on the Big Apple’s dark sidewalks, although much of
the filming took place at The State University of New York’s Performing
Arts Centre, which shows many musical and dance performances.
I Am Love, Italy
I Am Love, originally Io Sono L'amore, is
the story of a disillusioned married woman who embarks upon a passionate
affair with a younger man. Much of the film is set in elegant Milan,
though some of the film’s most beautiful scenes are located further
afield in rural hills above Sanremo on the Mediterranean coast of
north-west Italy, which can be most easily reached on nearby flights
to Nice.
Biutiful, Spain
Javier Bardem’s standout performance in
stirring drama Biutiful has landed him an Oscar nomination for best
leading actor, and also marks the first time a performance entirely in
Spanish has been nominated for an Oscar. With flights
to Barcelona available for less than £100 return, fans will have
plenty of money left over to enjoy the many fantastic bars and
restaurants that Barcelona is famed for, though much of the film is set
well off the beaten track in the backstreets of the El Raval area.
127 Hours, Colorado
Danny Boyle’s terrifying story of
a rock climber who found himself alone and trapped in the Utah Desert is
not one for the faint-hearted. Those wishing to experience the location
of this great escape will be met by some spectacular scenery including
the famous ‘fourteneers’ – mountains over 14,000 feet – of which
Colorado has 54.
