REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Openwave Systems Inc. (Nasdaq:OPWV), a global software innovator delivering context-aware mediation and messaging solutions, today announced it has expanded its technology alliance partnership with F5 Networks to include Openwave Analytics and Openwave Media Optimizer. In 2010, Openwave announced collaboration with F5 for Openwave Smart Policy and Openwave Integra to be integrated with F5’s BIG-IP® products. Openwave Analytics helps service providers generate insights into their mobile network. Openwave Media Optimizer enables them to provide more cost-effective video optimization that scales to keep pace with the growing data traffic on operator networks. Combining Openwave and F5 technologies also allows operators to leverage additional layer 7 processing power for functions such as Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and compression.
“F5 is pleased to expand our partnership with Openwave,” said Jim Ritchings, Vice President of Business Development, F5. “Together, our products enable service providers to more intelligently gain real time visibility into their network traffic and to more effectively manage and optimize over-the-top media, which ultimately leads to improved profitability and end-user experience.”
“Having insight into what is happening on the network is key for service providers to make the most efficient use of capacity and bandwidth,” said John Giere, senior vice president of products and marketing, Openwave. “We are excited about the expansion of our relationship with F5 to help enable service providers to make the most of their network resources by using F5’s BIG-IP products with Openwave’s Analytics and Media Optimizer solutions.”
Openwave Analytics is a feature-rich solution that provides early identification of mobile data trends that enable operators to make timely decisions to avoid bandwidth problems while targeting business driving opportunities. The solution also supports and certifies a number of standard data sources in the mobile operator ecosystem to generate a comprehensive view of the mobile network across subscriber browsing behavior, destinations, content, devices and mobile network characteristics.
Key benefits from Openwave Analytics include the following:
Comprehensive Insights
- Ability to correlate event level data from F5 devices with numerous standard data sources relating to subscribers, billing, network performance/ errors, devices, content etc.
- A complete mobile internet schema including devices, destinations, applications, subscribers and network data.
- Coverage and reporting on All-IP traffic
- ‘Ask any question’ adhoc analytics providing understanding of traffic in great detail down to individual events as well as patterns within mobile sessions using the sessionization engine
- Patent pending algorithms to gain accurate view of mobile traffic while managing petabyte data scale and/or reducing events stored by up to 3 orders of magnitude
Internet centric Segmentation/ Enrichment
- Availability of enriched information related to device characteristics and content categorization derived from base traffic data
- Ability to classify subscribers using standard out-of-box and custom segmentation
- Fully Integrated Nielsen offline segmentation of subscribers with online behavior
Targeted Advertising & Content
- Ability to leverage insights via real time APIs and a real time Smart User Repository (SUR) to inform plan offers, content recommendations and targeted advertising
Openwave Media Optimizer is an intelligent, content and context aware media optimization solution that works to automatically trigger optimization when the network reaches pre-determined thresholds.
Key benefits of Openwave Media Optimizer include:
- Congestion and Content Aware Optimization: The Openwave media optimization solution provides an intelligent capability to mobile network operators to automatically trigger optimization as and when the network reaches pre-determined thresholds. In addition, Media Optimizer can determine the content type (like news vs. sports action) and accordingly apply intelligent optimization actions that will maintain the video viewing experience of the subscribers lowering customer churn for operators.
- Dynamic Updates: Video over the internet brings unique challenges and opportunities for the mobile operators. One of the challenges faced is that the source and type of content can change with little or no notice to the network providers. Openwave provides the capability for all its deployments to quickly react to these changes by pushing the required updates via the cloud thus helping operators to minimize potential network disruption challenges.
- Adaptive Streaming: As the acceptance of the HTTP-AS grows with key video content providers, Openwave has taken a strong position in having a media and technology ready solution available for deployment now.
