NEW YORK--()--Affect Strategies, a public relations, strategic marketing and social media firm, and Strutta, an interactive promotions company offering an intuitive contest builder that enables businesses to manage fully branded online contests, today announced that The New York Intern Project, a contest searching for Affect’s next summer intern, is now open for entries at http://nyinternproject.com/.

Prospective interns who are dreaming about starting a career in public relations, marketing and social media are invited to submit creative and persuasive video or photo entries to The New York Intern Project site on why they would make the ideal intern by April 8, 2011. The winner will be rewarded with a three month internship at Affect Strategies that will prepare them to start a career in the industry. The intern will also receive $5,000 and a housing stipend of up to $5,000 to live in New York City for the summer.

To help identify the winning candidate, Affect and Strutta tapped leaders in the public relations, marketing and social media arena as judges. This includes Guy Kawasaki, acclaimed author and founder of Garage Technology Ventures and Alltop, as well as Erica Swallow, assistant editor for social media news source Mashable. Sandra Fathi, Affect’s founder and president and Leslie Campisi, vice president and partner for the agency, round out the team of experienced judges.

The New York Intern Project’s top six semi-finalists will be selected via public voting on the contest web site. These semi-finalists will then advance to a judging round, where the top three finalists will be flown in to New York to be interviewed by the judges. The winner of the contest will be announced at the end of April, and the internship will commence over the summer.

Affect’s winning intern will be immersed in day-to-day agency life and complete real public relations, marketing and social media projects for the agency. The intern will get an opportunity to:

  • See firsthand how to manage public relations, marketing and social media accounts
  • Experience running an Affect social media application and write blog posts
  • Participate in organizing an Affect event for a client or the agency
  • Attend New York public relations, marketing and social media industry events
  • Tour a leading New York media organization
  • Learn how to create media lists, pitches and account reports
  • Write an Affect press release and case study
  • Participate in client calls and all agency meetings
  • Sit in on journalist interviews

“At Affect, we are always searching for ways to attract new talent to join our team, which is made up of creative and strategic PR, marketing and social media thinkers who are highly passionate about what they do,” said Sandra Fathi, founder and president of Affect Strategies. “Working closely with our partner Strutta, we created The New York Intern Project with the goal of attracting an individual who will bring a new perspective and unique ideas to our firm. In turn, they’ll get the opportunity of a lifetime – a hands-on, real-world learning experience that will give them an edge over their peers as they begin their career.”

To enter The New York Intern Project, candidates upload a photo or video onto the contest web site that exemplifies their desire and qualifications for the position. Entrants must also complete a written questionnaire in an online form that details why they would be an ideal addition to Affect’s team. Candidates’ entries are then posted on the web site, where anyone can vote for their favorite entry. They can also easily be shared with friends on Facebook and other social media sites.

The New York Intern Project is powered by Strutta’s Contest Builder platform, which allows companies to create a promotion where users participate by uploading content such as videos, photos, audio or text. This format allows for easy sharing and voting.

“Strutta and Affect are passionate about empowering brands to engage with their audiences in a creative and interactive way,” said Ben Pickering, CEO for Strutta. “The New York Intern Project is an ideal application of Strutta’s online contest platform, and we’re excited to see how prospective interns make the most of our technology to showcase their attention-getting entries.”
