Polka Dots Publishing and Storybook App Developer PicPocket Books Announce a New App Called “Penelope the Purple Pirate” Now Available Through iTunes for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch

IRVINE, Calif.--()--Polka Dots Publishing and storybook app developer PicPocket Books are excited to announce a new app called “Penelope the Purple Pirate” is now available through iTunes for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.

Written by Melissa Northway, it was her little tomboy who was the inspiration to write a fun character who likes to go on adventures with her friends. In “Penelope the Purple Pirate,” her room is transformed into a pirate ship and she goes on a treasure hunt with her trusty friends. The illustrator, Paul Johnson, has done a wonderful job capturing Penelope’s feisty personality and zest for adventure.

“PicPocket Books is delighted to bring “Penelope the Purple Pirate” to the iPhone and iPad. Penelope is magical because her imaginative adventures resonate so clearly with many girls and boys. In a manner reminiscent to the iconic “Where the Wild Things Are,” the walls of Penelope’s bedroom open out into whole new vistas,” said Lynette Mattke, owner of PicPocket Books.

“We've already had requests from readers for more Penelope stories. Adventure awaits!”

Adventurous children whose imaginations know no bounds will find a kindred spirit in Penelope. This interactive storybook app promotes early learning and helps children develop reading skills.

Included in this app are FUN FACTS about the sea creatures in the story, INTERACTIVE GAMES for the home or school, as well as DISCUSSION QUESTIONS. Some of the questions discuss disabilities and how we should treat others. Each of Penelope's friends has some type of disability that the parent or educator can touch on if they so choose. Throughout the story there are fun sound effects that engage the reader.

“Penelope embodies many pro-social behaviors important for children to learn and read about in a story,” said Carisa Dulver, founder of Digital StoryTime.
