Coalition for Educational Success Applauds Bipartisan Congressional Effort to Stop Gainful Employment Regulation

WASHINGTON--()--Coalition for Educational Success Managing Director Penny Lee released the following statement regarding the bipartisan amendment introduced by House Education and the Workforce Committee Chairman John Kline (R-MN), Higher Education, Lifelong Learning, and Competitiveness Subcommittee Chairwoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC) and Representatives Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) and Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) to the Continuing Resolution, which would stop the Department of Education’s proposed “gainful employment” regulation:

“The Coalition for Educational Success applauds the bipartisan effort in Congress to stop the Department of Education’s proposed gainful employment regulation. The Department’s gainful employment proposal is a job killer and is a prime example of regulatory over-reach. The gainful employment proposal will eliminate as many as one-third of all programs offered by career colleges and will result in thousands of job losses for the sector.

“We look forward to helping President Obama reach his ambitious goal to have the highest percentage of college graduates in the world by 2020. But, this proposal stands directly in the way. Stopping gainful employment through this amendment is absolutely the right thing to do. Its passage will allow millions of students – nontraditional students, active military and veterans – access to a higher education and a pathway to a job.”
