Mobile World Congress 2011

BARCELONA, Spain--()--Tecore Networks, a global supplier of 3G-4G mobile network infrastructure, announced today the launch of its 3G-4G Network In A Box (NIB), the industry’s first transportable, ready-in-minutes network solution capable of supporting WCDMA, HSPA+ and LTE. By delivering multiple access technologies and streamlining the network through an IP-based architecture, the NIB provides operators with the most compact, adaptable and cost-effective platform for deploying, extending and evolving their networks.

Tecore has incorporated nearly 20 years of industry leadership in scalable wireless systems into the design of the NIB architecture. The 3G-4G NIB leverages the patented iCore® portfolio of software-defined core network elements combined with the iNodeB™ forming a 3GPP-compliant network solution. Available in pico, micro, or macro versions, the 3G-4G NIB provides the required scalability and feature set.

Key features and benefits of the NIB include:

  • All-in-one network solution, space-optimized as small as 22 cm,
  • Packet data support from WCDMA to HSPA+ and LTE
  • Full suite of voice services, text and multimedia messaging
  • Multiple operation modes including standalone private networks, multi-site, or roaming interconnect with the commercial operator’s network
  • Self-organizing network (SON) features to implement state-of-the-art operations and maintenance
  • Interworking/connectivity with existing infrastructure such as corporate PBXs and LANs
  • Localized information security, including encryption of communications between users and between locations.

The scalability and flexibility of the NIB enable a broad range of deployment scenarios:

  • Rural and remote operators can deliver broadband, multimedia messaging and voice services to new locations without the population density required to cost-justify traditional infrastructure build out
  • Larger operators can extend their networks into remote locations, offering a feature set consistent with the main network, and the capability of functioning autonomously in the event the backhaul link is disrupted
  • Operators or government agencies can quickly install complete networks supporting existing subscriber devices in the event of emergencies or commercial network overloads
  • Armed forces or peacekeeping missions can set up communications coverage on an as-needed basis, and move the equipment from one location to the next
  • Mobile communications can be provided in transit, in the air or over the water, when out of reach of terrestrial networks.

“For over five years, Tecore Networks has supplied state-of-the-art wireless infrastructure solutions for the Cordova network,” explained Paul Kelly, General Manager of Cordova Wireless. “As we evolve our current network to support wireless broadband access, Tecore’s 3G-4G NIB is ideally suited to drive our implementation.”

The architecture of the 3G-4G NIB defines a path forward for operators providing a technology refresh via software plug-ins rather than forklift upgrade. Support in the iCore can include the following key architectural components: UMSC / MSC / VLR, SGSN / GGSN, EPC, HSS, AAA, SMSC and MMSC. Tecore Networks will be exhibiting the NIB, iCore and iNodeB at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, February 14-17 at Stand 8C78. The Tecore executive team welcomes visitors to learn about the company’s products, share their requirements, and determine the optimal solution.

“Operators are seeking innovative solutions to provide consistent coverage and service at the margin of the network and for niche applications,” said Casey Joseph, Chief Technology Officer, Tecore Networks. “Tecore’s NIB provides the form fit functionality for these requirements, delivering robust performance in near-zero footprint, and enabling the lowest total cost of network ownership.”
