ERIE, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The GE Foundation - the philanthropic organization of GE - announced today the award of $500,000 to two Erie-based community health centers in an effort to help increase access to quality healthcare across the United States. As part of the GE Developing HealthTM program, these grants will support the Community Health Net (CHN) centers – The Daniel S. Snow, MD Health Center and Harborcreek Health Services in providing increased access to healthcare in their respective communities.
Developing Health is a three-year, $50 million GE program that aims to improve access to primary care in targeted underserved communities across the United States. The program aligns with GE’s healthymagination initiative, a commitment to reduce costs, improve quality and increase access in healthcare.

Developing Health is a partnership between GE Corporate Citizenship and the GE Corporate Diversity Council. Modeled after GE’s successful philanthropic program Developing Health Globally™, the program was launched in New York City in October 2009, and has since expanded to Atlanta, Milwaukee, Houston, Cincinnati, Louisville, New Orleans, Baltimore, Fairfield County, Schenectady, and now Erie.
The Developing Health program builds on the success of GE’s existing Developing Health Globally (DHG) program. Community Health Net (CHN), incorporated in 1985 as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), opened The Daniel S. Snow, MD Health Center in the heart of downtown Erie, at 1202 State Street in 1995. The location offers services in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Gynecology, and Optometry; specialty programs include Ryan White Part C HIV/AIDS, Health Care for the Homeless, Health Education, Diabetes Education, Smoking Cessation Classes, and Psychiatric screening. The location also houses a 340B Retail Pharmacy. As part of the Pharmacy services offered, LECOM School of Pharmacy faculty and students provide education and medication management for patients of CHN.
About Harborcreek Health Services
To provide healthcare access to residents living in East Erie County, Community Health Net opened The Harborcreek Health Center, located at 4401 Iroquois Avenue. The Health Center opened December 6, 2010. Family Medicine, Internal Medicine and Geriatric Services are provided at this location, which is located in the only designated medically underserved area outside the City of Erie. In 2010, Community Health Net provided affordable healthcare to over 14,300 unique patients (34% of which are children), composed primarily of Erie County’s most vulnerable population, the uninsured and underinsured. These unique patients generated almost 62,000 visits for the same time period.
