SAN FRANCISCO--()--Tom Mulgrew, a longtime Business Wire veteran in Nashville, has been named Vice President of Agency Relations, the company announced today.

Mulgrew reports to Business Wire President Gregg Castano.

Mulgrew’s career at Business Wire has been varied and interesting. He opened the Nashville office back in 1985 when the company only had six bureaus. In 1997, he helped push the Business Wire imprint westward with the launching of three offices in Texas.

Assuming the mantle of Regional Vice President, he oversaw sales and operations of seven Business Wire offices, from Atlanta to Dallas before a promotion to Vice President, and later Senior Vice President of Sales in 2007.

Mulgrew took a hiatus from Business Wire in 2008 to pursue a lifelong mountain climbing dream. During his 18-month break from the Company, he scaled the 19,400-foot Mount Kilimanjaro as well as other major peaks. He returned to Business Wire in late 2009 as Director of Agency Relations, and this recent promotion to Vice President puts him in the challenging role of overseeing agency business and establishing relationships with top executives at major PR firms and PR organizations worldwide.

“Tom's return to the company was seamless and we look forward to taking our agency relationships to new heights,” said Cathy Baron Tamraz, CEO of Business Wire. “This business is all about relationships, one of Tom's strong suits. He and our team have already made great progress as we continue to educate and counsel our clients on Business Wire's social media, mobile and other PR/IR global platforms."

“The challenge is to juggle social media with grass roots PR and best practices,” said Mulgrew. “In the end, you want clear, consistent messages sent to the right audiences. That’s where we can be a huge resource.”

Mulgrew earned a Bachelor’s degree in English literature from McGill University in Montreal. He enjoys hiking, tennis and music. He and his wife, La-Voe, live in Nashville, Tennessee. They have two grown children, Annie and Thomas.
