Federspiel Controls Enters Multi-year Partnership with NTT

Collaboration Brings Dynamic Cooling Management to Data Centers Worldwide

EL CERRITO, Calif.--()--Federspiel Controls today announced that it has entered into a long-term strategic relationship with NTT Facilities, Inc. designed to bring Federspiel Controls’ energy management systems to data centers on a worldwide basis. The agreement represents a multi-million dollar commitment in sales revenue.

“We chose Federspiel Controls as our partner after extensive research into how best to meet our clients’ needs for an effective energy management strategy,” said Keizo Hoshijima, President & CEO of NTT Facilities USA, Inc. “We installed Federspiel Controls systems in-house in a pilot project designed to demonstrate the effectiveness of their technology and it passed with flying colors. We believe that our combined solution delivers essential capabilities to data centers and telecommunications facilities everywhere.”

Federspiel Controls participated in a pilot project at a co-lo data center managed by NTT America (http://www.us.ntt.com) in San Jose, California, which delivered results significantly exceeding expectations, reducing cooling energy costs by over 60%. Approximately 10,000 square-feet in size, the data center is equipped with 14 30-ton DX computer room air conditioners (CRACs). Within two days of deploying the Federspiel Controls energy management system, 9 of the 14 CRACs were automatically turned off to dynamically match capacity with the cooling load. At the same time, the average temperature across the site was reduced by more than three degrees Fahrenheit, and local temperature fluctuations significantly reduced. A significant reduction in compressor start/stop cycles was also achieved, contributing to longer equipment life and lower maintenance costs.

“We were enthusiastic to collaborate with NTT Facilities in their pilot project, and delighted that they have selected Federspiel Controls as their partner to bring state-of-the-art energy management systems to data centers and telecommunications facilities worldwide,” stated Mark Housley, CEO of Federspiel Controls. “We couldn’t have chosen a more ideal partner – NTT Facilities is a leader in designing and building leading-edge information facilities that power the Internet and the world’s communications infrastructure.”

Under the terms of the agreement, NTT Facilities will distribute Federspiel Controls energy management systems to data centers and telecommunications facilities first in Japan, and then on a worldwide basis. NTT Facilities personnel will provide pre-sales consultative assistance, manage installations, commissioning and deployment, and provide ongoing support.

“Federspiel Controls pioneered the application of advanced artificial intelligence technology to the complex task of dynamic energy management,” continued Housley. “Our new relationship with NTT Facilities will ensure that our solutions are made available to an even broader base of users – maximizing uptime while simultaneously reducing energy consumption. It’s a great example of how green technology can be a win-win proposition.”
