NTT America Leverages Continued Industry Leadership of NTT Communications’ Tier-1 Network with its 400 Gbps Milestone

Bandwidth increased significantly in 2010 to meet ever-increasing market demand

NEW YORK--()--NTT America, a wholly owned U.S. subsidiary of NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com) and a Tier-1 global IP network services provider, today announced that the NTT Communications Global IP Network has reached 400 Gigabits per second (Gbps) of capacity on its transpacific network, making it among the highest capacity transpacific networks currently available. Operating at 300 Gbps as recently as February 2010, the significant growth of NTT Com’s network enhances NTT America’s ability to accommodate new customers in the U.S. market rapidly and deliver their data across the transpacific network in a fast, low-latency manner.

The increased bandwidth will benefit customers connecting through Point of Presence (PoP) locations on the NTT Com Global IP Network backbone in the United States, Europe and Asia Pacific, providing them a significant competitive advantage. NTT America directly connects telecommunications companies, Internet Service Providers (ISPs), content providers, Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) and enterprises to major markets around the world via NTT Communications’ Tier-1 IP Backbone Network.

“As network traffic growth continues to increase exponentially, NTT Com is answering industry demand by scaling quickly to continue to offer the highest capacity transpacific network currently available,” said Doug Junkins, CTO of NTT America. “Our continued investment in our network infrastructure will enable us to stay ahead of the curve in providing the level of service our customers need to remain competitive.”

This growth has also contributed to another significant indicator of success for the NTT Com Global IP Network: The company has consistently operated a customer churn rate of less than 1 percent year after year.

“Our consistently low churn rate clearly indicates our customers’ support and satisfaction with the Global IP Network. In fact, in October 2010 we experienced an all-time-low 0 percent churn,” said Michael Wheeler, vice president, Global IP Network at NTT America. “In turn, reaching the 400 Gbps milestone demonstrates our commitment to our customers.”

As demand grows for content and services available via the Internet, NTT Com supports its customers by shaping IP transit bandwidth, delivered over both Internet protocol version 4 (IPv4) and the next generation Internet protocol version 6 (IPv6). The company provides flexible and fast dedicated access to the global Internet, one of the most aggressive Service Level Agreements (SLAs) in the industry and more than 1 Tbps of peering capacity globally.
