RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Samsung, the world technology leader and innovator in consumer electronics and telecommunications, today announced the appointment of Mr. Yangkyu (Y.K.) Kim as President and CEO of Samsung Electronics America (SEA), effective immediately. In his new role, Mr. Kim is responsible for overseeing the company’s operations in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
Mr. Kim comes to SEA from Samsung Headquarters in Korea, where he held the position of Senior Vice President and head of global sales and marketing for the Visual Display Business for the past two years. During that time the business strengthened its position as the global market leader in televisions. Prior to that assignment, Mr. Kim was head of mobile phone sales and marketing for Europe, during which time Samsung’s mobile phone business achieved the number two global market share position.
Over the course of his 24-year career with Samsung, Mr. Kim has held several prominent positions within the organization, including President of Samsung Electronics Philippines and President of Samsung Electronics France for five years. During his tenure in France, Samsung became the leader of the French electronics market with close relationships with both major retail channel partners and telecom operators, and a strong brand position with consumers.
Samsung Electronics America’s outgoing President and CEO, Mr. C.S. Choi will return to Korea as an Executive Advisor to Samsung’s global Vice Chairman and CEO, Mr. G.S. Choi.
