MCLEAN, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--“Be mindful of your manners.” What was once a standard reminder to say “please” and “thank you,” has now evolved far beyond a few simple polite nuances. To spotlight the do’s and don’ts of modern manners, Hilton Worldwide (NYSE: HLT) has partnered with Steven Petrow, an award-winning journalist, author and LGBT expert. Petrow will serve as both an advisor and advocate for the company on inclusive marketing and outreach efforts.
“Steven will help extend Hilton’s already rich history of welcoming the world to our hotels and advocating for inclusion and equality,” said Jeff Diskin, executive vice president, commercial services, Hilton Worldwide. “Conrad Hilton’s vision for the company was to ‘fill the earth with the light and warmth of hospitality’ – and that still remains true for all our guests.”
To kick-off the partnership, Hilton and Petrow will host a Twitter chat tomorrow, May 7 called, Modern Manners for Weddings, providing tips and advice on attending or hosting a wedding for a same-sex couple. The discussion, taking place between 3 p.m. - 4 p.m. EST, will be hosted on Twitter via @HiltonHotels, with Petrow moderating via @StevenPetrow.
Continuing the conversation, this Saturday, May 9, Petrow will be attending the 26th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in New York at Waldorf Astoria New York, where Hilton is the Exclusive Hotel Partner and host. The Awards recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the LGBT community and the issues that affect their lives while also funding GLAAD’s year-round work to accelerate acceptance. In addition to reporting live via Twitter at @StevenPetrow, the Modern Manners Expert will also share a full recap of the star-studded event on Hilton.com/GoOut.
“I’ve spent the last 15 years helping people navigate situations that may be new to them,” said Petrow. “Partnering with Hilton as their Modern Manners Expert is an opportunity for me to help make an impact and help shape the way all guests are welcomed.”
As a company, Hilton seeks to promote a fair, diverse and inclusive workplace – and opens its doors, equally, to all people. Today, Hilton is known as a proud supporter of equal rights for all people, scoring a perfect 100 percent on the Human Rights Campaign’s 2014 and 2015 Corporate Equality Index. The company has also collaborated with some of the LGBT community’s most influential organizations, including GLAAD and the International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association (IGLTA).
