Toshiba Launches Sine-wave Brushless Motor Driver IC

500V/2A product developed for home appliance and industrial equipment fan motors

TOKYO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO:6502) has launched a sine-wave brushless fan motor driver IC for home appliances and industrial equipment that offers an industry-leading class¹ absolute maximum rating of 500V/2A.

Growing demand in the home appliances market for energy saving increases in power and for lower noise is prompting a shift to inverter-based products, starting with high-power products. Toshiba has responded by developing a line-up of sine-wave motor drive ICs to improve efficiency and reduce noise in fan motors.

The new product, "TB67B000HG", integrates a sine-wave drive motor controller IC and a 500V/2A output IPD² suited for driving air conditioner fans in a single package. Using the new product rather than two separate ICs can reduce the mounting area³, making it possible to reduce the overall system cost. An increase in the driving current capacity to 2A supports higher power motors.
